Mitchell-Tyndall Lead with Pole Extension
This particular tangent pole of the former Mitchell-Tyndall, South Dakota Northwestern Bell Toll Lead, has an higher pole to obtain clearance in order for a drop to cross a county highway. This line was one of two which were being considered for the nation's first nomination of an open wire line, in situ, by D. G. Schema and The Electric Orphanage during the years 1979-1982. This line was wrecked out in 1982, however many artifacts from this line were preserved. The Tilford, South Dakota line was preserved in its entirity which can be seen west of I-90 at the Tilford Exit in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Note the side bracket construction which served some exchange lines for nearby farms. They shared the bottom portion of this lead with the most important toll carrier circuits on the top arms.
